Taking Away Guns = Safety?

With the events that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School, the gun debate over gun ownership has been the hot topic, specifically the ban of assault rifles. Taking away these types of fire arms is not going to make you safer. The current guns will still be in the publics’ possession, so why take away a certain type just because of the caliber it fires. A gun is a gun no matter what kind it is. Just because you put a ban on assault rifles does not mean there is no way to get them.

Paul Waldmansays that the arguments gun advocates make are “wrong”. The truth is that he is the one that’s wrong. All he is doing is taking logical arguments other people make and twisting them around to his point of view. He takes ten of the ten most popular arguments stated by gun advocates and fights against them. The arguments he makes are not good because all he does is say things in reverse. There is no evidence or good research to back up his points. The real truth is that he has no argument.

If someone wants an assault rifle bad enough they will be able to get one. If you don’twant to buy one, you can make one.  The process is not that hard. You need the tools, measuring instruments, a computer, 3D, printer or CNC machine, and a few spare parts and you can have a working gun. You can already find files on the internet that will allow you to print a 3Dmodel of a thirty round high capacity magazine and lower receivers for AR-15’s. If you can produce those two parts you can make a whole gun, which is legal for personal use only.

If you take away assault rifles what’s to say the government won’t start putting bans on other types of fire arms. Right now people think that all fire arms are bad and that they need to be banned. The very people saying that are the ones that are not properly educated on fire arms. They say guns kill people while the truth is that people kill people. The gun is not doing the killing the person is. If people to took the time to educate themselves instead of just sitting around watching and listening to what the TV and government say, they would understand that.

The government has no right to take away assault rifles or any other gun. The second amendmentstates: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a freeState, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. It clearly states that “the right of the people to keep and bear arms”. The right to bear arms is the right to own a firearm and an assault rifle is considered a firearm, therefore you cannot legally ban them without making a change to the United States Constitution.

Instead of worrying about the ban on firearms the government should focus on fixing the laws they already have in place. If gun sellers did proper background checks and looked into people’s mental stability they would know that particular person should not have a firearm. Checking for mental stability would assist in preventing mass shootings. They could also require everyone to keep a firearm inside of a locked safe preventing miss use. They should also require anyone owning or purchasing a firearm to take a safety class to learn how to fire a firearm the right way like they do when your trying to obtain a concealed weapons permit. In order to fully get your concealed weapons permit you must first take a class or classes in order to be issued the license.

Taking guns away is not going to make us safer. The government wants to take the guns away and that is not what gun owner’s want. Taking away guns is just another way for the government to keep control on us. They don’t want us revolting over the mistakes they make. The government believes the only way to guarantee public safety is by taking away guns. Which is the wrong thing to do. Taking away guns is going to solve nothing. Illinois specifically Chicago has the strictest gunlaws and does not allow concealed weapons. The result of that is one of thehighest murder rates in the entire country.

If you take away guns people are not going to be safer. They are going to be prone to more attacks. There will not be a way for them to defend themselves. Yes, you have knives and hand to hand combat, but that all requires you to be within an arms reach of your attacker, which is very dangerous. You want to be at a safe distance if someone is trying to harm you. The only way to do that is with guns. You can keep the “bad guy” at a safe distance and if things escalate youhave the ability to open fire. Taking away guns will also take away the right to have a concealed weapon. The concealed weapon is the best and only way to have a fire arm on your body. There are a lot of bad people in this world and if someone is trying to attack, you should be able to have the right to use your concealed weapon if you so choose.

People who live in remote areas also rely on weapons to protect themselves but from a different enemy, wildlife. People who live on farms, mountains, or woods all have the ability to have unwanted intruders such as bears, coyote, wolves, and other large game. Those animals are all very curious animals and they are also very dangerous if they feel frightened. They are natural born hunters and if they feel a human is a good dinner they can make that happen. That’s another reason why having a firearm is a good thing. You can shoot warning shots to scare them away but if the animal keeps charging, you can shoot in self-defense.

Taking away firearms is not going to make you safer in fact it will do the opposite. Thee banning of assault rifles is absurd there will still be guns so why take away a certain type just because of the caliber it fires. A gun is a gun no matter what kind it is. If a person wants a gun, they’ll find a way to get one. At least the way it is now, it will be legal and safe. The right to own a gun is fundamental and the current laws should be upheld.
